News: Test how your calls are signed with our free STIR/SHAKEN tester

We've launched a free STIR/SHAKEN caller ID test at stir.incentre.net. Call our test line from any phone. In about a minute you'll see every signature that arrived with it: attestation A, B or C, who signed it, and whether it checks out against the Canadian trust list.

Why it matters

STIR/SHAKEN is how phone companies vouch for caller ID. Carriers and phones can use it, along with other signals, when they decide whether a call shows as verified, gets a spam warning or is screened before it rings.

We hold our own STIR/SHAKEN certificate, and our switches now sign our customers' outgoing calls with it. Calls from numbers on your account with us are signed at attestation A, the strongest level. If your phone system sends a number that isn't on your account, the call is signed at B.

Two ways to test

• Call us. From the line you want to test, call 780-306-1177 or 780-440-2502. A short recording answers and hangs up. Then enter the date and the number you called from at stir.incentre.net.
• We call you. Enter a number and we'll place a short test call to it from 780-306-1177, signed at attestation A. The result shows exactly what we sent.

Testing a line that's on our network

If you call the test line from a number on your account with us, the call never leaves our network, so it doesn't need a signature to reach us. The result shows the signature our switches attach when that number calls out: attestation A for your own numbers, signed with our own certificate and checked against the Canadian trust list. To see a call that actually crossed to another network, use We call you with your mobile or any number with another provider.

Other networks can re-sign a call on its way. So what the person you're calling sees depends on every network the call crosses. Calls to our test line show you exactly what arrived here, so you don't have to guess about your own line.

For resellers

Use it to show your customers how their calls are signed, or to check a line after you set it up or port a number in. It's free, there's no sign-up, test records are kept for 90 days, and you're welcome to share the link.
