Setting up your router with DHCP (no login)

Does this apply to me? Most Internet Centre connections that do not show login credentials or a static IP use DHCP, where your router gets online automatically with no username or password. Sign in to portal.incentre.net, open My Services, and click your internet service: if there is no Internet Login Details and no Static IP Settings section, this is the guide for you. If you do see a username and password, follow Setting up your router for PPPoE. If you see a Static IP Settings section, follow Setting up a static IP connection.

Set up your router

  1. Connect your router's WAN (or Internet) port to your modem or fibre box with an Ethernet cable, then power everything on.
  2. Open a web browser and go to your router's setup page, usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, and sign in with the router's admin login.
  3. Find the WAN or Internet settings and set the Connection Type to Dynamic IP, DHCP, or Automatic (the wording varies by brand).
  4. Save, then reboot the router and give it about a minute to connect. There is nothing else to enter - no username or password.

Where the setting lives on common routers

  • TP-Link: Network (or Advanced) > WAN, set WAN Connection Type to Dynamic IP.
  • ASUS: WAN > Internet Connection, WAN Connection Type = Automatic IP.
  • Netgear: Internet, answer No to "Does your Internet connection require a login?".
  • D-Link: Internet > Manual setup, My Internet Connection is = Dynamic IP (DHCP).

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure the connection type is set to Dynamic IP / DHCP, not PPPoE or Static.
  • Power-cycle both the router and the modem or fibre box, the modem or fibre box first, then the router.
